In this how-to we explain how you can safely remove the plastic bezel / frontplate / faceplate from your dvd or blu-ray drive. The plastic bezel is easy to remove but it’s also easy to break one of the clips from the bezel. If you use a small flat screwdriver and follow the steps below you can prevent breaking one of these clips. Once the bezel is removed you can add it to your HDD Caddy.
???? If you have any trouble with removing the bezel, please check this video for further instructions.
Step 1 open the tray load from optical drive
Slighlty open the optical drive and then remove it from the laptop. If you already removed the optical drive from your laptop, you can use a paperclip in the small hole at the front of the bezel to open the tray.
Step 2 Push vertical clip inwards
Use a small flat screwdriver and push the right vertical clip inwards and then forwards. It will slightly start to let loose. Gently push it up.
Step 3 Don’t remove bezel yet
The vertical right clip is now from its position but don’t remove the bezel yet. Don’t force the bezel from the optical drive.
Step 4 Push left horizontal clip
Lay the optical drive upside down. Use a small flat screwdriver and push the left horizontal clip inwards and then forwards. It will also pop up the bezel from the dvd drive.
Step 5 Remove bezel
The left horizontal clip is now from its position and the bezel can be easily removed. All clips are loosened from the optical drive.
Step 6 (final) Put the bezel on your HDD Caddy
Put the bezel on your HDD Caddy. Make sure you start from right to left or else the clips will not align properly. If you do not start from right to left the bezel will not fit in the HDD Caddy because the clips will block the inserts.
