How-to: safely remove plastic bezel / frontplate from optical drive

In this how-to we explain how you can safely remove the plastic bezel / frontplate / faceplate from your dvd or blu-ray drive. The plastic bezel is easy to remove but it’s also easy to break one of the clips from the bezel. If you use a small flat screwdriver and follow the steps below you can prevent breaking one of these clips.

Step 1: Slighlty open the optical drive and then remove it from the laptop. If you already removed the optical drive from your laptop, you can use a paperclip in the small hole at the front of  the bezel to open the tray.
Slightly open your optical drive and remove from the laptop
Stap 2: Use a small flat screwdriver and push the right vertical clip inwards and then forwards.
Push right clip inwards and forwards.
Step 3: The vertical right clip is now from its position but don’t remove the bezel yet.

Step 4: Lay the optical drive upside down. Use a small flat screwdriver and push the left horizontal clip inwards and then forwards.
Push horizontal left clip inwards and forwards.
Step 5: The left horizontal clip is now from its position and the bezel can be easily removed.

Step 6 (final): Put the bezel on your HDD Caddy.
