Acer Aspire 5560G incompatible with HDD Caddy 2nd HDD

One of the very few laptops that do not allow to use a 2nd HDD with a HDD Caddy is the Acer Aspire 5560G. When a 2nd HDD is inserted in the Acer Aspire 5560G, it won’t recognize the HDD and does not boot the operating system. It will lock at the BIOS starting screen. For most Acer Aspire laptops the bios version higher than 1.16 will fix these problems. Unfortunately the booting problems remain with the Acer Aspire 5560G.

We’re still waiting for a new BIOS version to fix the booting problems for the Acer Aspire 5560G when adding a 2nd HDD. But for now, a HDD Caddy unfortunately will not work with the Acer Aspire 5560G.

  1. The caddy can be hotswapped while the laptop is on, and it will recognize the drive and operate with UEFI (bios) ver 1.15. Also, the system can be rebooted (warm booted) with the HDD caddy still installed.

    • Hi Nicholas, thank you for your message. That’s correct. It works if you insert the HDD Caddy when the laptop has passed BIOS start screen for the Acer 5560G. That’s currently a workaround for 5560G users with 2nd hard drive.

      • Did something change since 2013? I have now bios 1.15 and have the same problem, is there any solutions now?
